Microchip

MiWi™ and MiWi P2P (peer-to-peer)

MiWi™ and MiWi P2P are proprietary protocol stacks developed by Microchip for short-range wireless networking applications based on the IEEE 802.15.4™ wireless personal area network (WPAN) specification. The MiWi protocol stacks are optimized for low-power, low data rate, cost sensitive application and offer a small foot-print alternative to the standard based ZigBee® compliant protocol stack.

Features

  • Lowest-cost fully functional network protocol for IEEE 802.15.4 transceivers
  • Ultra small memory footprint proprietary protocols
  • Simple, low cost solution for customers who do not need interoperability with other ZigBee devices
  • No Fees or certification required
  • Protocol stacks are provided FREE of charge when used with a Microchip's PIC® microcontrollers and the MRF24J40 transceiver/transceiver module

Description

IEEE Std 802.15.4™ is created to address low-cost, low-data rate, and low-power design application for short-range Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN). The IEEE 802.15.4 defined standard for wireless connectivity among fixed, portable, and moving devices in a WPAN environment is the foundation for network protocols such as standard based ZigBee® and Microchip’s proprietary MiWi™ and MiWi P2P.

Hardware Solutions

Microchip provides the MRF24J40 transceiver IC and the MRF24J40MA transceiver module products, software protocol stacks, and development tools for customers to create low-cost, low-power, efficient IEEE 802.15.4 WPAN network solutions. The transceiver products together with Microchip’s PIC® family of microcontrollers, provide a flexible, cost effective platform for customers to create the optimum wireless products and solutions for their given application.
